The Way Home

A brighter future is within our grasp. A three-season documentary series on the homelessness epidemic in California — the state with the largest homeless population in the country. The series premiered at the DocLands Documentary Film Festival in 2020.

The Way Home is a short-form documentary series that focuses on the current homelessness epidemic in California. Across three seasons, the series follows the people, policies, and programs working toward solutions to one of the state's most urgent crises. From encampment outreach workers and shelter operators to the lawmakers shaping policy and the people living unhoused themselves, the series builds a ground-level portrait of a crisis with no single villain and no easy fix — and the small, stubborn efforts underway to change it.
